Life and Work with Milan Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milan Williams.

At the young age of 2, Milan showed subtle signs for the love of entertainment, she would “perform” and demand applause from her “audience”. At the age of 5, she started asking to be in magazines and on tv, which leads to her mother searching for a talent agency. She was signed to her first talent agency at the age of 5. Now, at the age of 11, she has starred in films, national commercials, off-Broadway performances, voice-overs, short films, live screenplay readings, print ads, fashion shows and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a young actor comes with its share of challenges, although it’s fun and exciting, it’s a lot of hard work for everyone involved. For instance, I have to dedicate time to learning my lines and understanding the scripts. We have to travel to auditions that aren’t close to home which can be costly when you consider tolls, parking, gas, and food. Also, you have to be able to handle not getting booked for a lot of auditions. Most actors book just a small fraction of the auditions they go on, you have to be able to view them as practice or rehearsal in a sense and not get upset when you don’t get a callback. Also, once in a while, you may have to give up something you really want to go on a project.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Milan is an actress that has done national commercials for AT&T, Sprout TV, Nickelodeon, Columbia Bank, LearnVest and Unilever – Just For Me. I recently worked on a project called Christmas Camp that comes out on tv this winter, that was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed doing background vocals for the talented philanthropist and singer Tennille Amor. I’ve also blessed to work some great talents, like the living legend, actor Kene Holliday (from hit TV series “Matlock”), the multi-talented Damaine Radcliff (from the movie “Step Up”) and the dynamic Lisa Cortes (Executive Producer of the movie “Precious”) to name a few. I’m currently working on a project called Little Apple where I play the lead character Apple, who is a precocious little girl growing up in a changing Harlem who aims to resist systems that perpetuate inequality. She tackles social issues such as racism, gentrification, and microaggression while developing her superpower of claircognizance. Press coverage for “Little Apple” included Shadow and Act, The Grio, Huffington Post and Afropunk.

I sketch a lot, I love drawing fashion designs, dresses, jumpers, costumes, etc. I love adding extensive details to them. I have started creating a few of my designs and love that! I even wore one of my designs to a red carpet event for a play I was in. I have covered the KiddiePreneur Brand – Celebrity Entertainment Business Awards (CEBA) events by interviewing Celebrity Guests and Honorees. Last year, at this event, I met the lovely Bianca Golden (from America’s Next Top Model) who gave me the name “the kid Oprah” and complimented me on my poise and interviewing style.

I’m most proud of being able to tell stories for others who may not have a voice, I’m proud of advocating for others whether in school or on screen. I’m proud of being an environmentalist and participating river cleanups in my community. I’m proud of volunteering for a local group home for people with cerebral palsy. I always have a good time with them, they welcome me with open arms.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I like reading mysteries books and watching videos of animals.
