Life and Work with Marni Newman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marni Newman.

Marni, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In high school, I took a job as a shampoo assistant because I needed money. Little did I know, that what I thought was just a job, would turn out to be my life’s passion. After graduating from high school, I had to make a decision between the military or college, neither of which I wanted to do. I chose Pivot Point Academy. During my time at Pivot Point, I realized my gift of hair. The best decision of my life. October of 2018 will mark 25 years of cosmetology. I also became an instructor in 2014.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I learned on this road that this profession is not just “doing hair” but there is also a business side. Although doing hair was a smooth road, I had a lot to learn about the business aspect. I learned that the business included having people skills, networking, marketing myself effectively, managing my monies in order to make new money and being dependable. All of these are learned through experience and not taught in school. My advice is that you are your own advertisement. The way you present and conduct yourself is how you will be perceived.

Please tell us about Genetik Bleu Salon.
I am a hairstylist, mentor, and instructor. I specialize in ‘hair.” I am known for my colors, cuts, and character. I am most proud of the transformations that my Genetik Bleu stylists provides and the confidence my clients possess when leaving the salon. Genetik Bleu provides a professional, friendly and family-oriented atmosphere. We provide all hair care services. We provide product knowledge for the clients’ specific hair care needs. What sets us apart from other salons is that we make it personal. We take the time to get to know our clients. We then take what we know about our clients and include that with our professional knowledge of hair in or to provide an individual experience that is unique to the client… the ultimate hair experience.
