Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Robertson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been reading other people’s blogs for years and always thought to myself, “I could do that.” Back in college, I really liked any project that allowed me to be creative and I specifically remember a project where I had to create a website for a local business. It was challenging but very rewarding. The same goes for Catcalls and Catwalks. Finding time to produce and edit content and navigating (basic) web design is a challenge. But, every time I press “publish” on a new post, I instantly feel a sense of accomplishment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a bumpy road! One of many roadblocks. Like many young people, I struggle to find time to balance my personal life, my day job, my side hustle and my sanity. Not to mention the constant temptation to compare myself to others. It’s so easy to get discouraged when you see a blog that has seemingly blown up overnight and think to yourself, “I’ll never be like them.” We are our own worst critics. For me, I try to turn that self-criticism into fuel to keep at it. Rather than comparing yourself to other bloggers, look to them for inspiration!
Please tell us about Catcalls and Catwalks.
Catcalls and Catwalks is a lifestyle blog. But, I try to be as authentic as possible in my writing. I’m not always motivated. I don’t always love how I look. I’m not rolling in money. Rather than trying to paint myself as someone who lives an “enviable” lifestyle, I want to keep it real!
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Don’t be afraid to try new things. If you’re given a task or put on a project that sounds like hell, just give it a shot. You may find a new passion. When you’re open to new things, you open yourself to the possibility of being noticed.
