Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Jamison.
Ebony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a southerner turned midwesterner. Texas made me, Illinois raised me. I currently reside in Chicago and I am a wife and mother of two. I am both educated and work in the field of Finance and Accounting. I have a deep passion for all things beauty and fashion.
In March of 2016, I launched Brownskinbeautiful to showcase the many ways that I styled my natural hair and shared these tips with my followers via blogging and vlogging. Brownskinbeautiful was truly created to hold myself accountable for creating a space especially for me to grow into other interests that I had that didn’t involve me being a career woman, a wife, a mom of two and all of the other titles I hold. I’ve been able to do just that as my brand has morphed from sole beauty to also incorporating additionally lifestyle and fashion. It has truly allowed me to reinvent myself as not only a wife, Mom, and daughter but as my own creative boss.
It all began with the launch of my YouTube channel, and then I created my IG platform that morphed from primarily haircare and beauty to incorporating lifestyle and Fashion. In the fall of 2017, BrownSkinBeautiful.com was born. I created my blog to be able to share similar content without having to sit in front of a camera all of the time. My main objective is to effectively illustrate that beauty is what you make it and we must embrace our own beauty in every way. I want to teach, inspire, and connect with women through beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. Together, I believe that we can break the beauty and fashion industry standards by being unique and creative as well as by living and shining through our very own beauty.
In just these two short years, I have accomplished more than I’d ever imagined and I don’t plan on stopping. I’ve had the extreme pleasure of working with all sorts of brands from haircare, the fashion, to beauty to food collabs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a fairly smooth road. I determined very early on in building my brand that I always wanted it to be a true reflection of me with the understanding that it could and would change to fit my lifestyle. Moving from being a strict beauty brand was seamless. If I could offer any piece of advice, I would say be open to exploring other avenues in your brand and don’t lock yourself into any one particular space in the world of being a blogger or content creator. It’s important to stay true to you even if that means you have to make some changes. Authenticity is definitely key. I aspire to encourage women to uniquely be themselves even if it defies the standard of beauty.
Please tell us about BrownSkinBeautiful.
I am a Beauty, Lifestyle and Fashion content creator. I was originally most known for natural hair styling and content and at the top of 2018, I decided to do a rebranding that incorporated more of my lifestyle and fashion. I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to simply be myself. Across all of my platforms, my content is very consistent, you won’t always see me glammed up, you get a glimpse into the life of Ebony who is the owner of BrownSkinBeautiful. I pride myself on creating content that I truly, enjoy, believe in and stand behind rather than creating content solely for sponsorship opportunities. Rest assured if it’s on my platform, it’s because I want it to be. I have the ability to simply say “No” to opportunities that don’t resonate with me and my brand.
Any characteristics that you feel are essential to success?
Yes, I believe that I’ve always been a fairly independent person and done things my way even if it didn’t necessarily fit the mold of what others were doing. That’s a huge piece of why I created Brownskinbeautiful, it was initially a space formed for me to be creative in my own way and bring people with similar interests along with me.
