Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantae’ Vetrice.
Chantae’, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in New York, I was always surrounded by creativity and music. Not to mention that my father was in the music business (as an executive & manager to some well-known acts), my grandfather is an amazing singer and painter, and my aunt was an accomplished pianist who graduated from Syracuse University. So, I guess you can say that music and the arts is in my blood!
My mother raised me by herself and because of her having to play father & mother while working full-time to keep a roof over my head, she still didn’t let that stop her from making sure that I explored my creativity and perfected my craft. My weekends were busy with dance lessons (ballet, tap, and jazz), choir rehearsals, and violin lessons. Needless to say, I came to know from a very young age that music is what I wanted to do and I would stop at nothing to get there.
During college, I lived in Atlanta, GA and that is where I would really put my talents to the test. I started getting into the inner circle of some of your favorite hip hop artists and their producers (Ludacris, Jazze Pha, Akon, etc.) and getting my name out there as an artist. After a few years in HotLanta, I returned to NYC and worked on my artistry, perfecting my unique sound, and discovering myself which lead me to move to Ibiza, Spain in 2010. I spent 2 glorious years on the island. I guess that’s what happens when you buy a one-way ticket out of the country! Ha! But in all seriousness, it was one of the best decisions of my life. I ended up with my face on the cover of Ibiza Style Magazine, being featured as an influencer in Pacha Magazine, becoming the face of Ibiza Rocks, and gracing the pages of Space Magazine alongside my longtime friend DJ Roger Sanchez. Living in Ibiza allowed me to live what I write about in my music, as a pop artist…dancing, parties, love, sex, emotions… I would feel all of this and I believe that is what makes an artist authentic…living what you sing about. People can relate to what’s real.
After my two years in Europe, I moved back to New York City and I acquired a production deal that would teach me a lot about the music business and give me a little taste of stardom, but unfortunately this situation wasn’t meant to be. And you know what? That’s ok! Because it has led me to where I am now… in Chicago. A place I never thought I’d be.
Currently, I am here a solid two years and am finishing up my album with my incredible producer named Bravo. We are on the verge of something great and I hope that Chicago will share in this journey with me. The city has definitely welcomed me with open arms and I hope that I make you all proud. I’m still a New Yorker but hey! I kind of like it here! 😉
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in life WORTHWHILE will be easy. I believe this, I breathe it, and I have to remind myself of that constantly.
Of course there have been some struggles…this is show business! I have seen some of my musical peers surpass me in certain areas and sometimes that can get the best of you. We all want success but what’s important to understand is that your journey is YOUR journey and you can’t take the same road as everyone else.
My advice to all woman, young and older, who are just starting out… stay true to you! Know what you want and go after it. Keep solid people around you and seek as much knowledge as you can.
Please tell us about your business.
I am a pop artist.
What sets me apart from others? I will let you be the judge of that.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Learn who you are first before anything else. What you choose to do, career-wise, is secondary. It’s not who you are.
I believe that when you know yourself, you can do great things. Nothing in life is promised forever. The world can take your money, fame or career away in a heartbeat but they can never take your spirit and the essence of who you are.
