Cassandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Amrita is the first brand worldwide to provide footwear that enables the practice of grounding while incorporating energy healing crystals in our sandal designs for added therapeutic benefits.
The term grounding refers to the beneficial exchange of electrons from the Earth to our body, which is achieved via direct contact. Grounding has a scientific basis and a wealth of research links its inhibition to numerous health issues (from chronic inflammation to autoimmune disease and depression), which have increased in this modern day and age partly due to the use of rubber soles, which halt this beneficial exchange of electrons. To address this issue, Amrita Grounding Sandals are made with 100% leather soles, which is an energy conduit that allows grounding to take place. Some of the proven benefits of grounding include, but are not limited to, reduction of pain and inflammation, improved immune function, decrease in depression and stress as well as increased healing rates. To amplify this therapeutic effect, we have incorporated energy healing crystals in our designs. Crystals have been used as far back as the ancient Greek and Egyptian civilizations for their healing properties in both physical and mental ailments. Through the creation of Amrita, we have bridged fashion, nature, science, and health. Our mission is to offer fashion coupled with proven health benefits to enrich the lives of our customers and make our product an irreplaceable ally in their everyday lives.
How I got here: Amrita is a family owned business and we produce our shoes in Greece (this is a venture including myself, my mother and sister).
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the main obstacle to overcome is fear of the unknown and fear of failure. One way I combat this is with the belief that if you are coming from a place of authenticity and following ambitions that are aligned with your true self, then there is nothing to be afraid of. You will be supported by the universe. Also, I don’t really believe in failure… but only in lessons learned. Through various obstacles that we might label as “failure”, it is important to see what the situation is trying to tell us and teach us. Challenging situations are often gifts in disguise. It’s about being resilient and taking the learnings so that we can adapt our approach and emerge wiser and stronger. Also, don’t forget… what is meant for you, will always be yours.
What sets us apart is that we provide shoes that are beautifully designed, incorporate crystal healing and provide numerous health benefits. There are only a few other brands providing grounding shoes… and they are not that aesthetically appealing. Also, we are the first brand to incorporate energy healing crystals in the designs. Finally, the crystals are interchangeable (they screw on and off) so that the consumer can alternate them according to healing needs or their outfit.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I was brought up to be very independent. I noticed early on that if I focused on something and maintained a positive and resilient mindset, anything was possible. I also relocated as a child (moved from South Africa to Greece) and generally, I have traveled a lot and lived in different countries. I think this has made me very adept to change, resilient and open minded. From a young age, I had a strong drive to live life to the fullest and experience as much as I can. I agree with what they say… in the end, you only regret the things you didn’t do.
