Life and Work with Ashley Battle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Battle.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my journey in the music industry, but my love for filmmaking came from loving music videos. I went to school and received a degree in audio engineering and music production. My goal was to be a music producer then I started filming music videos for fun and my film career took off. I found myself on sets and then working on big sets. As I got older and pursued my career I realized more of what I wanted to do and that was ultimately make, direct and shoot music videos and short form visuals such as fashion films and creative shorts still making music to compliment my visuals.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but very worth it. Some of the biggest struggles is finding what you like to do and making money from it to live. I had to work a lot of free jobs to get my name out there. My advice to other young women would be to never give up even if it seems hard and to always have a plan. The more you plan for what you want the better. Even if it will take years to get to where you want to be, always be willing to learn and network with people who have similar goals and plans in life.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a filmmaker and a music producer. The music side is more personal and I don’t offer a collection to the world just yet but I will sometimes put my own music to my visuals. My bread and butter as I would like to call it is working on film sets in the camera department. I’ve worked on a few of the big network shows here in Chicago as well as commercials. But my passion is to create music videos and eclectic visuals that compliment my music or others music, such as fashion films, short experimental narratives and music videos. I think what sets me aside from others is the way I think. Most of my short films I have written and made don’t have dialogue, they are unique stories. I usually don’t care what other people are doing and I try to be as bold as I can with my work.

Who have you been inspired by?
My mom and my sister, I look at what my mom overcame in life and I see such a strong person. Like a super hero almost. All black women are super heroes to me. Some of them just don’t realize their power.
