Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Stewart.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’d say, I got the writing bug pretty early on. My mom was a freelance writer and editor and a lover of books, so reading and writing were a part of our daily narrative. So much so, that I thought I wanted to be a writer when I grew up and when I went to college became enmeshed in our weekly newspaper. I also interned at a few magazines and e-zines before securing a job in NYC at a spa magazine, however not as a writer or editor, but as a marketing assistant.
Turns out my love of writing was surpassed by my love of event marketing and I soon became much more focused on that, but I missed writing so I started blogging on the side with a friend of mine. Eventually, I started my own Tumblr (yep, had one of those) and named it, Sassy Confetti because I threw sass around like confetti naturally!
Eventually, my Tumblr became my website now – www.SassyConfetti.com. My blog is simply about me – what I wear, what I eat, where I hang out in Chicago, events I attend and what I do for fun!
To come completely full circle, I have also partnered with The Chicago Good Life to join my love of blogging with my love of events to create Good and Sassy. We collaborate with brands to host events that bring Chicago influencers together with companies to increase awareness and engagement of their brand within the Chicago community.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the biggest struggle has just been to keep my voice throughout all the installments of Sassy Confetti. I think we often read what others write or see what others do and try to mimic that because we see them being successful. However, I have found that I’m most successful when I actually just do what I think works or what I think is funny or what I think is beautiful! Staying true to yourself or finding your voice is the largest struggle of all, but once you do it will take you places for sure.
Please tell us about Sassy Confetti.
What sets Sassy Confetti apart from other blogs is that it is just truly, 100% me! You get to the see the good, the fun, the annoyed, the sassy – all of it.
I think what I am most proud of though is my work with Good and Sassy. We get to work with brands to create small local events to bring brands to influencers that work for their brand. Our first two events were really focused on women-centric companies too which we love to be able to empower other female entrepreneurs through our brand collaboration work!
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I definitely think to see my mother truly do it all had an influence on me also trying to create that same success in my own life. She had her own business, was a full-time mother and also did a lot of charity work within our community. It was so inspirational to see such a strong woman balance everything and know that it was possible for me to do the same.
