Check out Rebecca Moy’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Moy.

Rebecca, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Some of my earliest memories are of the wonder of color and the natural world’s lines and formations. I fell in love with painting. Fortunately, I was supported in exploring the arts by family and friends growing up. Everything creative was possible and encouraged for me. I studied visual arts management at Columbia College, Chicago. I wanted to learn the business side of things and how to manage finances, perhaps a gallery. Sometime in the early 2000’s a great friend convinced me to participate in a popular neighborhood art show “Around the Coyote”. Reluctantly, I did. I was nervous. I made loads of small works on paper, packaged and sold most of them that weekend. It was one of those times when life aligns, dreams and reality mesh. One foot in front of the other, I haven’t looked back and continue to hone my craft daily. Turns out my business degree works to manage my own art.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint. Many use words like abstract, contemporary and modern to describe it. I feel the paintings encapsulate my internal experiences and memories. My works explore the fine lines between fine art and graphic art, the organic and architectural or man-made. I don’t really think about this at all, my mind obsessively selects colors and shapes. Compositions result and my hands make the paintings. A visceral process. I hope viewers have fun looking at my work. I hope my art permits a place to wonder, to wander within their own thoughts, feelings and memories.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I guess diligence and patience are as essential as brushes and paint, for me. And an athletic mind for the process and work helps.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I do group shows around Chicago throughout the year, studio visits &etc. For many artists, supporting them by collecting directly is best.
