Check out Alana Lindenfeld’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Lindenfeld.

Alana, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I picked up my first “big” camera when I was 14 years old. My dad got it for our family vacation to Alaska so that we could have some really great pictures of the trip. I had always loved taking pictures before that but realized that I could do more stuff when the power was in my hands (literally). From there, I kept practicing photographing everything I could from nature to food and my friends. I eventually discovered I loved working with people and making every photo shoot really fun. I eventually bought myself my very first DSLR and the rest is history.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I consider myself a portrait photographer. That includes senior photos, families, maternity, couples/engagement, and weddings! I love being able to work one-on-one in senior or regular portrait sessions to show people that taking pictures and having fun go hand-in-hand–there’s no reason to be nervous! Working with couples is my absolute favorite type of session. Too many people get caught up in the posing and perfection of photography. I like to joke around with my couples, have fun, and capture genuine emotion. No one wants to look back on their photo session and remember the humidity of the day and how long it took to get that one pose perfect. People want to look back at the pictures of them and remember how much fun they had together and remember why they were laughing with each other.

I hope that people can take away the feeling of confidence and joy from all my artwork. I want people to be able to feel the happiness of my subjects even if they don’t know them.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think the number one thing that’s essential to success as an artist is confidence in oneself. From the first idea of wanting to become an artist, I think a lot of people get shut down by others and by society. It’s not that those people want to see you fail–they don’t. It’s that they don’t want to see you fail, and they’re afraid that being an artist will lead you down the wrong path.

I once read a quote that goes, “. . . we judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done” -Henry Longfellow.

I know for certain that the only reason I’ve been able to make it as the artist I am today is because I set up my goals, hopes, and aspirations, and I make them happen. I don’t stop working until I get what I want. Other people will only see all that hard work once I’ve booked that wedding or been paid to travel somewhere. They will only judge me and think I’m successful once I have something to show for it. I, on the other hand, have to keep confidence in myself because I know that all my hard work will pay off. I know what I can do, and I use that confidence in myself to make it happen.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
