Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Burger.
Eric, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I don’t really feel like I have a very interesting story haha. I mean I’ve always been into making some kind of art as long as I can remember. I used to get in trouble a lot in school and was definitely the class clown type (don’t think I’ve necessarily grown out of it either) so I spent a lot of time in detention or being kicked out of school hahaha. I got my first tattoo at a super early age (13) in a gangster kid’s kitchen one day ditching school. And my mother damn near beat it off me hahaha. But as long as I can remember after seeing my first tattoo on someone I knew I wanted to be a part of that and was just obsessed by everything tattooing related, from the imagery to the history of the trade… fast forward many years and here we are, I get to travel the country and put my dumb doodles on people for a living and I couldn’t be more stoked about it!!!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m primarily a tattooer, but I will literally try to make art out of anything I can get my hands on. As far as my creative process goes I just try being weird and unconventional and do a lot of goofy things that tend to make no sense or stupid inside jokes, or things that I just get a chuckle out of in general hahaha, most of the time when I’m creating aside from clients requests and commissions and such, I’m just drawing, painting or whatever just to make me happy. I feel like it doesn’t really matter to me what people take away from it as long as I enjoyed making it. As far as tattooing goes as long as my clients leave the shop stoked about their tattoo it’s a win win!
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Don’t be afraid to try new things! EVER! Find a stupid piece of wood, draw something stupid on it! You can literally make art out of freaking ANYTHING, and that is awesome in my opinion. And secondly, don’t worry about what anyone else things about your art… yes EVEN YOU! You are always going to be your own worst critic and that will always shit on your creative process. Get out of your head and just make stuff!
