Art & Life with Stephanie Goldman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Goldman.

Stephanie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
In the early eighties I was doing some traveling sales and was sent to Downtown Chicago. It was my first time in the windy city and experiencing the piercing cold, strong winds and icy rain while walking around the Down Town area and Water Tower Place. Getting lost while making my last sales call from Cabrini Greens is when I knew a change needed to be made. Walking on fire to get over the fear of being a professional artist at one of the first Tony Robbins Seminars is how my unique story started. Having put myself through Court Reporting School, Massage School and a Masters in Psychology, avoiding the passion in my heart was no longer an option. The Fire Walk experience changed the direction of my life and catapulted me into being an artist full time. I started private art instruction with Ken Goldman, took myself on the Grand Tour in Europe for a couple of years and continued art tutelage with noted artists Wolf Kahn, Nelson Shanks and other professionals I respect and admire. My love of creative pursuits indulged and encouraged from my earliest memories has been an intense focus and driving force.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My artwork is comprised of the colorful, magical and scientific intertwined with spiritual and historical story telling. Contemporary, experimental techniques tamed by classical realist skills are the backbone of each piece. My hope is that my art will open a door in the viewer that brings about an unforgettable visual moment; that the image will live in the viewer’s mind’s eye for eternity. The meaning I have endeavored to incorporate into the image is sensed by the viewer and expanded upon with their own subjectivity.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
My definitions of success: If I create a better piece of art today than yesterday, if a person I have never met sees and is inspired by one of my pieces, if someone commissions or purchases a piece of art I feel successful. Persistence is the quality every artist needs to be successful. Doing the work, rain or shine, good, bad or mediocre, it is important to keep on keeping on. Let history be the final arbiter of where you stack up in the art world. I always hope I have created something of everlasting beauty and is the one image that is always salvaged from the trash heap of history:-)

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The pieces I am showing in this interview are from my Heat Signature series created with watercolor. They are meant to create other ways we can see and relate to another with the perception of heat. My work can be seen by private appointment at my studio, at my website goldmanfineart.com at californiawatercolor.com or signup for an art class at the Athenaeum Art School in La Jolla. They can also see the Healing Art my artist husband Ken and I have created at various hospitals in the area (i.e. Rady Children’s) and abroad. People can support my work by sharing it with others, purchasing a piece or ordering a private commission.
