Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Bentley.
Maya, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I became interested in fashion as a little girl. My mother would always show me how to style things and even pick out my outfits in my teenage years. I give my mother a lot of credit because she is reason why I became so interested in the fashion industry. I didn’t necessarily know I wanted to actually be a designer until I interned for a stylist after I graduated High school helping out with fashion shows. I thought everything was so glamorous and really exciting when I helped out. I knew that someday I could experience that excitement from another perspective. Many years later with more practice constructing garments and gaining more experience within the industry, I launched my own brand MSB Apparel in 2016.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a fashion designer and I make women’s apparel. I really love geometric shapes and asymmetrical cuts to garments which is why I incorporate that a lot with my own. My designs are very feminine and minimal with eye-catching features. The message that stands behind my brand is, femininity is empowering. My main goal is to make each woman feel empowered by her femininity, and confident when she wears the brand.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I define success as being truly happy with your own personal growth and accomplishments, rather than viewing what others have done. It’s hard at times because society can influence us to define success as having a lot of money and being extremely well known. I believe one thing you must have is confidence as an artist. If you are confident in yourself and your craft there is nothing that can stand in your way that would make you feel what you have done is less than or not as great.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I do fashions shows periodically but I mainly display my work through social media and my website. www.msb-apparel.com
