Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Leviton Gondek.
Diana Leviton, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I majored in Fine Arts, specializing in watercolor. After college I became Art Director at Northwestern University. I came back to Fine Art and a new found love of oil painting and now an artist-in residence at Chicago’s Zhou B Art Center. I’m well established in the Chicago art scene with group and solo shows. I’ve had multiple publications including two book covers. CBS News also did a special segment on me and my art. I have done commission work now owned by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Alderman Ed Burke and Alderman Tom Tunney. I was also commissioned by Special Olympics, to create a painting to be used nationally and internationally. The original painting is now owned by Timothy Shriver.
I have shown in art fair exhibitions in Busan Korea, Aqua Art Miami, New York, New York and have an upcoming exhibition in London this May.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m inspired by real and imagined images. I work primarily with oil on canvas. My work shows a certain kind of kinetics, and even at times transparency, to color and uncomplicated straightforwardness. My own vocabulary.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success to me is my work continuing to reach a broader audience through exhibitions, public art, publications. Essential for me, as an artist, is being able to create original pieces whose meaning is left to how the viewer receives and conveys it.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My gallery/studio can be viewed by appointment or during the Zhou B Art Center’s 3rd Friday Open Studio of every month. I have several public art pieces throughout Chicago. Often showing in exhibitions in Chicago. My work can also be seen on social media; Instagram, Facebook, Google and I’m also on Artsy.net
