Art & Life with Cam Casey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cam Casey.

Cam, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I originally started with video editing back about 4-5 years ago with putting together football clips and uploading them to Vine. I enjoyed doing this as a hobby but I was able to accumulate enough followers to start making it into a side job. I enjoyed what I did, but I had always wanted to create some content of my own and put it out there, so I started to make my own videos. Once I got more familiar with a camera I started trying some photos, and I have been hooked ever since.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I enjoy architecture photography in the city, whether it’s from above or on the street I love it all. I often travel down by myself and walk the streets looking to find new spots that make a great image and most importantly tell a story. The goal with my photos is to inspire others to get out of their comfort zones and explore the unknown. I believe that being comfortable with uncomfortable is a extremely important life skill. Photography is one of those ways I have become better with feeling comfortable with uncomfortable situation, and I hope to portray that to my audience through my images.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I believe that each day that people wait to start creating is another day that there becomes more competition. Life has become much harder for artists in recent years because of the increase in popularity. Nowadays everyone has a great camera in their pocket 24/7. The oversaturated market forces artists to step out of their comfort zone and create unique different work in order to stand out. Chicago should continue to support artists and get the general public more interested in photography and artists in general. artists are often the ones who show how beautiful the city truly is even in difficult times.
