Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hanks.
Brittany, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in South Florida where I discovered my love for art at an early age. Taking all of the art and painting classes I could through school, I got my BFA in painting at Florida Atlantic University. Since graduation I have been a freelance artist, lucky enough to have sold my art to collector, been in shows, and designed apparel that can be found all over the world!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I have heard that artists create what they need to see. I feel that for me, I make work that I need to get out, whether I’m doing it consciously or not. Most of my work is done traditionally with acrylics on canvas. I hope that the viewer takes away some kind of emotive experience from my work or can relate in some way from their personal life experience.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I think social media is a great platform for reaching out to like-minded artists. I do consider myself to be a ” lone wolf” for better or worse. I am part of an online collective of artists from around the world called the Bad Apple Artist Collective, and they are a big influencer to me in seeing other artists work, successes, and struggles on a regular basis.
