We hope that by highlighting the rising stars of our local art community on a weekly basis, we can help increase our community’s engagement with local art and the artists that devote their life to moving society forward.

A few weeks ago I photographed @normaansani. Immediately I liked her energy and I loved how honest she was about her life with me. We talked about living in Chicago as a teenager and what it’s been like for her living in Mexico. We also talked a lot about more intimate things like anxieties, queerness, and identity. Sometimes you meet people that you feel like you can open up to even if you don’t know much about them. I think that’s how we both felt and that led me to take really honest photos of her. I love how her fight for self discovery can be seen in this photo with her hand covering part of her face. This was one of my favorite photo shoots this summer.
