Meet Yessenia Mina of Gold Mine Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yessenia Mina.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Yessenia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I can remember, I have loved hosting parties and gatherings. I never knew I could make a career out of it until I ended up planning my own outdoor ranch wedding in sunny Florida. My wedding was nothing I had ever envisioned. It was nontraditional and full of personal details, including one of my best friends being the officiant. I never knew how much work, energy and details would go into planning an outdoor wedding.

I was mentally and physically exhausted by the time my wedding day rolled around. I wished I would have hired a Planner to help me with the logistics and making sure my months of planning went off without a hitch. I got married in April of 2010, we returned to Chicago, and I had my very first wedding that July. I knew right away this was what I wanted to do, and I have never looked back.

The journey to starting my business has not been an easy one, but I would choose it again in a heartbeat. In the beginning, I got leads through friends and family, but I knew I had to expand my reach to build my business and be trusted by my clients. I signed up to take a course through The Wedding Planning Institute and got certified in 2012.

I officially launched Gold Mine Events on December 8, 2013. When I started my business I was working full-time in the pneumatics field but was laid off in June of 2014. It was a blessing in disguise. I took this as an opportunity to solely work on GME and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

My love for planning, organizing and hosting events is what led me to this gem I call Gold Mine Events. I’ve always been a hopeless romantic, so the fact that I get to hear everyone’s love story is a plus in this business. There is something incredibly special about having a front row seat to one of the most important days of a couple’s life. Every love story is unique, therefore a wedding should be a reflection of that and who the couple is.

This makes for a very unique event every single time. My passion lies in helping my clients and bringing their vision to life. I want nothing more than for them to be able to enjoy their big day and see the beauty in every detail unfold.

The meaning behind Gold Mine Events:
I chose to name my company Gold Mine Events because my last name is Mina, which translates to a mine in Spanish. You have gold in a mine right? So Gold Mine Events (MinaDeOro). This was the easy part.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning a business definitely comes with a ton of challenges. One of the hardest things to do was to get started because I was afraid to fail. I knew I had to work extra hard to get my name out there and to get noticed.

When I started, I read countless articles and magazines about wedding planning. I listened to a ton of podcasts, took refresher courses and also flew to Vegas for Wedding MBA, which was very educational. This was just the beginning, but I can’t tell you how much I still enjoy learning about the wedding and events industry. It truly makes my heart happy.

Another challenge has been the administrative side of owning a business. The marketing, legality, contracts, website design, accounting, etc. It’s not just about having a business name and getting started, there’s more to it than just that. I’ve spent countless hours building a brand that speaks to my clients and allows me to market my business in today’s world. Anything worth having takes time and work, and that’s something I value.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gold Mine Events story. Tell us more about the business.
Gold Mine Events is a full-service Wedding and Event Planning company that strives to create beautiful events. Our team is here to make sure no detail is overlooked and we want nothing more than to create a Wedding/Event that is unique and fits your style. We make sure to provide ideas, designs and work very hard to bring our clients vison to life. I take the time to get to know my couples and get a feel for who they are and what’s important to them. This makes for a smoother wedding day.

Our mission is to provide quality service, a stress-free planning experience and execute a seamless wedding/event that your guests will forever talk about. Our couples are our clients but their guests and family members are equally important on Wedding Day. We want them to also have a personal and memorable experience. A celebration of love is always my favorite type of event and I cannot stress enough how thankful I am to God for putting this dream in my heart and giving me the ability to work with amazing couples who have also turned into friends.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe I’ve been lucky or unlucky in any way. I’ve been through some hardships in life but I’ve been able to overcome a lot of it through my faith. I’m fortunate to have friends and family who support me and continue to believe in me. I’m a strong believer in Christ and I know he has led the way and blessed me with great opportunities. The possibilities in this business are endless and I will continue to push forward in faith building my business and crushing my goals.
