Meet Trailblazer Samantha Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Thomas.

Samantha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career in Media as a Television News Producer (working at TV News affiliates in Missouri, Las Vegas, and Chicago). Along the way, I won an Emmy Award for Producing, which was amazing! The industry was great, but I always knew I had a passion for talking to people. Writing about them was awesome, but there was something about getting to know them, and their stories.

After moving back to my hometown of Chicago, I knew it was time to dive into another part of the industry, but I wasn’t too sure which direction I’d take. At the time, I was producing the fabulous food show, Chicago’s Best (WGN), and an idea was formed. This was 2012-2013, social media was booming and I decided to mix my food and news knowledge, and interview socialites over food. ‘SmallTALK Web Series,’ was born. In 2014, I self-produced my first web series. I later began doing Red Carpet Events, Social Events, and of course, Food Events.

Just last year, I changed up my ‘On-location’ format, producing my own On-Set Talk Show, ‘SmallTALK with Samantha.’ A Lifestyle Talk Show on Las Vegas PBS.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road was not smooth, and still isn’t, lol! The word “No” started to become something I was used to hearing, but I never believed it. I knew that with all those No’s, the right YES would be on its way.

I’ve always had this belief in myself that knew things would work out. That’s really where it starts: Believing in YOU.

I’d say to others, just be your Best You. Keep going. When something doesn’t work, give yourself a moment to sulk, but not a lifetime. The right opportunities will find you. And don’t let social media make you feel like you’re behind. Trust your Own Journey.

Lastly, don’t be intimidated by others, but be inspired.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SmallTALK with Samantha – what should we know?
I’d like to say I’m known for having conversations with everyday people. I don’t believe in interviews or just going to events, but getting to know someone, and networking at the events, is when I get excited!

I can really go back to some of my earlier videos and remember something special about that person. I love getting the story, but more importantly, getting to know someone.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Find what makes you stand out and build on that. Your personal talents will always show up when you’re operating in your calling.
