Meet Trailblazer Ritu Trivedi-Purohit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ritu Trivedi-Purohit, PsyD.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ritu. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Thriveosity was launched to fill a gap in cancer care and chronic illness management. As a medical psychologist, I have the privilege of working with patients, their caregivers and health care providers. In my work I found that many patients were struggling with management of side effects and were living a poor quality of life as they were undergoing treatments. They expressed distress and confusion over conflicting recommendations for managing their care. I feared we were failing patients by focusing on treatments and not attending to the whole person. I felt compelled to do something impactful and so I launched Thriveosity. We consider ourselves to be the Care Beyond the Treatment. At Thriveosity we provide self-care kits to patients. Our kits contain clinically curated items to help patients with recovery and foster a higher quality of life.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road by any means. There was quite a bit of naivete on my part. I was driven by my compassion and desire to impact change but not too much more. I had to learn all the various aspects of launching and running a business. I had no real business knowledge prior to the launch and I’ve certainly made some mistakes along the way. It has been a real rollercoaster of promising outcomes peppered with harsh disappointments. Ultimately, I would do it all again, this time with the learnings from my mistakes.

For anyone who is starting their own entrepreneurial journey, I would recommend talking to as many people as you can. Ask a lot of questions! Find someone to co-create your startup with you, someone who compliments your skills and experience so that you have all your bases covered. This might be a partner or it might be an advisory board. There are many seasoned experts willing to support startups, network and build a board.

We’d love to hear more about Thriveosity.
As the Founder & Ceo, I bring 19 years of healthcare experience to thriveosity. We exists simply because there is a real need. Anyone who has been touched by cancer knows the enormity of disease. We are the first functional self-care kit designed to address the side effects of treatment and illness. Thriveosity improves the lives of people with cancer. We had tremendous growth in 2017 and shipped kits nationally.

Thriveosity is unique for many reasons. We are at our core, a patient-centric startup. We co-designed and co-created our product offerings with the people who matter most, patients. Healthcare providers, patients and caregivers were included in the development from inception onwards and still continue to shape thriveosity.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Wow, just one piece of advice? I am a mother of two daughters and I tell them work hard, work smart, be curious, be kind and take risks!
