Meet Trailblazer Kelly Nash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Nash.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a love for writing. I started writing in my journal at the age of seven and and wrote my first “book” in the 6th grade. Growing up, I had poems and opinions published in the Chicago Tribune and I wrote lifestyle and sport articles for my high school newspaper. I have continued writing in the professional world at my current employer, where I’ve had articles published on the company blog. I even wrote a book over a span of five years and it currently sits on a flash drive as I debate on whether or not to publish it.

Since being married last September and with wedding planning no longer taking up all my time, I realized something in my life was missing. I’d come home from work and feel fulfilled with my job, but not necessarily with my life. I constantly feel like I have to be doing something productive so sitting on the couch and watching TV after work just wasn’t cutting it for me. I was lacking that creative passion a lot of people crave. I realized on a random Saturday in January that I hadn’t written much the last few years – because, life – and that I wanted to get back to my roots of writing.

It was on a cold, snowy night that Lipstick & Ink (www.thelipstickandink.com) was born. Lipstick & Ink is centered around the young professional woman. It’s for the woman who wants to achieve greatness in her career and her life. The woman who wants to break the glass ceiling. The woman who knows when to speak up for herself. The woman who wants to be mindful of her mental and physical health. The woman who wants to see and travel the world.

I launched Lipstick & Ink near the end of February and haven’t looked back since. I absolutely love writing about relatable topics and helping others achieve their idea of greatness. I truly aim to inspire in every post I put forth. It’s an amazing feeling.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest challenge has actually been trying to not get ahead of myself and become too overwhelmed. When you’re just getting started as a new blogger, you’re pulled into so many directions of what you can do and how to do them. There are so many exciting possibilities, but I started to get overwhelmed with everything I could and needed to do. I decided to make a daily to-do list and a long-term to-do list. This way, I could visually see the immediate things I need to accomplish, but also my long-term goals for when I have time for them. This is extremely important, especially for those working full-time and running their blog on the side. I highly recommend this approach!

There’s always going to be obstacles any time you start something new, but I believe that’s how you learn. I love the idea of a challenge, so while starting a blog has been intimidating, it has also been so exciting. If you can have a positive attitude and stay motivated, you’ll be set up for success.

We’d love to hear more about Lipstick & Ink.
Lipstick & Ink (www.thelipstickandink.com) is really a platform dedicated to women to gain inspiration from. I write for those women who may just need that extra push or small tidbit of advice to make their dreams a reality. Career motivation and tips are really what Lipstick & Ink is all about, as I have always enjoyed helping those I know accelerate their careers. The blog also focuses on overall wellness, specifically around mental health and self-care. It’s so important for us as women especially to take care of ourselves first and foremost before we can care for others. Lastly, I like to inspire others to travel and see the world if they are able. This world is so vast with amazingly beautiful landscapes, cultures and people and immersing ourselves in those we’re not familiar with gets us out of our comfort zones.

In the overly saturated blog world, I hope Lipstick & Ink stands out as being different. I went into this not wanting to be like every other fashion blog out there and have real meaning to the words I write in my posts. I want the women reading my blog to feel confident and empowered. I want them to stand out in the crowd and know they can do anything they set their minds to. That’s what Lipstick & Ink is all about.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Women who particularly work hard and raise their voices have always given me inspiration. I want to surround myself and follow women who promote positivity and self-worth. Some of these women I’d admire are Sheryl Sandberg, Cindy Robbins, Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Sophia Bush, to name a few. We need more women like this in our society and in our world to set an example for other women. We need women telling us to not be afraid, to raise our voices and be loud with them and to kick ass in all aspects of life.
