Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Hernandez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gabriela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was younger, my mother was a Mary Kay Consultant. I would love to organize her makeup and play with it and enjoyed going to meetings with her to learn about products that made women look and feel beautiful. This influenced my love for makeup.
From that point, I began studying makeup artist and various brands and began practicing on myself and close friends. I’m part of different blogs and attend classes frequently to learn new techniques as well as perfecting tradition ones.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There definitely are many challenges. Sometimes, you go weeks without clients and that’s when you most need to work harder to network yourself. To young women, don’t sell your self-short practice makes perfect. Represent your self in the most professional way possible. Keep on educating your self-attending events and hand everyone you meet your card.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
I love to work with women who don’t wear makeup every day. I love the challenge and the reward afterward.
I specialize in making women feel beautiful and to continue to want to use makeup.
I like to keep my style simple but defined. I am most proud of being my own company. This was a vision I had many years ago to see it come to fruition is the best feeling and pushes me to thrive for more success. I would have to say what sets me apart from others is my attitude and my professionalism. I have a great attitude towards my clients. I do not work for a salon or rent space. I freelance and travel on location. I have to be creative and work harder to get clients.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I am very keen on Facebook and Instagram for social networking. Both apps offer promotion options for your business. It has brought me many leads for my makeup service. It is a very affordable way to promote and grow your business.
I have recently become a big fan of “The Sunday Chapter” blog. It offers many articles. From fashion, makeup and great conversation.
