Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamarie Tee.
Tamarie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I can say I started as a child. Working with my grandmother, she really introduced me to all genres of music. Every influence that she had, she passed it on to me. I ventured out on my own to create my own sound. I never gave up on my vision and continued to push through all the hardships. Sticking to the plan even when it changes have shaped me into the artist I am today. I’m still growing with the same principles.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been an easy road! Getting the people to understand and experience things [Music] outside of the norm is a very trying and difficult thing. At first, no one wants to listen until its trending. With being the frontman of an 11 man band, handling all the personalities can be stressful but a the end of the day, it’s family and working towards togetherness is not an easy job. Other than that and surviving the plight of the struggling artist, the obstacles are just paving the way for a smoother road ahead.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tamarie T & The Elektra Kumpany – what should we know?
The Elektra Kumpany has been around for about 4 years. It’s a big band. Our genre is Exotic Funk (Reggae, funk, latin, spiritual). Being the front man of the band, I have to make sure the production is on point, making sure the energy is on point. Also, always making sure we are being professional. My whole thing is “Are you on business?”. At the end of the day, that’s exactly what we are. It’s our job to create and spread an organic sound. You know, I’m proud that we are all on the same page, we are a family. We don’t get on stage just to perform we do it, so that people walk away with an experience. I look at it as a whole, a unit. That’s what sets us apart from the other. Everyone is extremely talented and dedicated to the passion.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The bass player and guitarist from the first band I ever played with [The Redline Lounge], they really helped me understand the dynamic of being a part of a band. Every artist I’ve played with has taught me a little something that has helped me along the way. My manager continues to remind me “Are you on Business?” All the members of The Elektra Kumpany hold a standard that is forward thinking and positive that has truly been a key factor in our success.
