Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Wallace.
Tamara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I suffered from low self-esteem and weak confidence. I did not realize my worth and I knew it by letting people talk to me any type of way, I did not stand up for myself, and went through years of an abusive relationship. After I had two daughters, I realized that I cannot stop life from happening, that there may be a slight chance they may go through some of the things I’ve gone through. Although I cannot predict the future and stop any disappointments my children may face, what I can do is influence the attitude they have going through those things and even avoiding them! I want them as well as other ladies to feel beautiful, worthy, and most of all confident to not settle for less, go after what they want, demand respect and to take on their careers, life, goals, relationships, and any aspect of life they wish to pursue. Lade is an organization that aims to meet that goal.
Has it been a smooth road?
Operating Lade has not been a smooth road. Myself as well as my team often time come out of our own pockets to fund the events we host because we see a need in the community. If we can find funding or even fundraising activities we will be able to give back and do way more for our community,
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Lade Incorporated is a non-profit organization whose goal is to inspire, encourage, and motivate girls/women to first recognize their potential, cultivate their strength, and utilize the power they have deeply ingrained in them. We do that by hosting events throughout the year that cater to that overall goal. We’ve hosted vision board parties, learned how to wrap headwraps, bonfires, workshops and more but our biggest event to date was our annual self-defense class in honor of domestic violence awareness month in October. Over 100 ladies came out to that event and we look forward to impacting more women in our community.
We’ve also launched an online quarterly magazine called Lade Magazine that cover the latest topics in career/entrepreneurship, fashion/beauty, entertainment, inspiration, travel and more. Our target audience are millennial ages 18-35 but all women can relate.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel Chicago is a great place to start a business especially an organization whose main objective is to elevate the mindset of the population. Over 100 ladies attended the annual self-defense class. Majority of them actually from Chicago. I would recommend anyone to start a business in the city of Chicago.
