Meet Shirley Yang of Muses in Gold Coast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Yang.

Shirley holds an Engineering degree from the University of Southern California and started her career in technical product management where she led product teams at Fox Interactive, Sony PlayStation Network, and Audible, Amazon. In 2012, NBC recruited Shirley to join their team at 30 Rockefeller to strategize their news stations’ and reporters’ social media strategies and positioning with the rise of Twitter in breaking-news events.

Since then, Shirley has advised and led award-winning audience growth campaigns for Fortune 100 companies and is responsible for thousands of YouTube and Instagram stars’ rise to fame. Shirley has grown her personal audience to over 100K followers across social media channels. She is also a startup mentor at Techstars.

Shirley has run many entrepreneurial projects, and know how difficult it is to assemble and deploy project-based teams. Muses is built to solve that problem.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I recently read a book by Ryan Holiday, The Obstacle is the Way. I really recommend it! It talks about how obstacles and challenges keeps pushing us to improve and iterate, and we should welcome obstacles. I think it helps us reframe our thinking when things get touch – we have to push through in order to come out better on the other side.

Muses – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Muses lets creators and entrepreneurs who sit outside of the LinkedIn corporate culture connect and create networks for growth. Muses taps into the $1.4 trillion Gig economy where users can build meaningful networks based on projects they’re working on, and choose to pay others with either money or in-kind exchanges.

Currently we have 35,000 members in 121 countries who create 10,000+ collabs a month.

We are all about community over competition!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success from a more philosophical standpoint: be the best at what you do, and be happy with who you are. I love the thought of defining the new billionaire as influencing a billion people rather than having a billion dollars.
