Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergio Vargas.
Sergio, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest in art, since I can remember I would doodle on paper. Once I was a little older I got more involved in graffiti and everything pretty much went from there.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been smooth, there’s always obstacles to dodge but always keeping positive helps. One of the struggles would be finding people who are willing to let me paint their property and allowing me to do my work without any financial gain.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m used to urban art, graffiti, lettering, I’ve been focused more on self-portraits in a 1930s cartoon style. I’ve also been producing hip hop beats for a little while now.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Chicago is the best city to start in, it’s a melting pot of culture and art, sometimes good artist go unnoticed because they don’t have the connections to galleries or anyone in the scene. I think the city could be more oriented towards more open art festivals or all city artist calls.
