Thanks for sharing your story with us Saul. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Cleaning has been an influence my entire life, come on, at a very young age, I’ve always been told to clean. From sweeping and mopping to taking out the trash. My wonderful mother had been in the cleaning industry for over 15 years, an exceptional influence she is. After graduating from college and working in the corporate world, I decided to go back to my family roots and take the so called “PLUNGE” in early 2013.
Entrepreneurship always intrigued me, especially in the cleaning field since we’ve had tremendous experience through my immediate family. It’s the story people have heard before, I started from a garage and slowly have built a company that is valued in our industry with the assistance of our 30 team members. Along with our vendor partnerships, we’ve established a continuous effort to improve images of every facility or property we touch. Today, we now have a second division, Code BLU Restoration supporting our efforts to streamline services to all of our valued clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggle is real! The reality in owning a business is simple, roll up your sleeves and get to work. Funding is always an obstacle, hiring takes tremendous effort, problem-solving is constant. Work & life balance, still trying to figure that one out. Learn as you go, just don’t stop.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the BLU Commercial Cleaning story. Tell us more about the business.
One stop shop, that’s what we strive for. You’ve heard the saying “jack of all trades is a master of none”, Why not be the jack of all trades and be the best you can at those trades. Our services enhance the image of each facility we touch. Ranging from janitorial day to day services, carpet cleaning, floor care services, odor remediation services to power washing and disinfecting restroom areas, we’re all about solutions. Streamline, it’s efficient and effective.
We take pride in building a transparent and fun culture with our team. Consistency is key to long-term progress, fostering a caring environment is what we aim for a day in and day out.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck of the draw, I guess? As I started BLU, Gustavo (my brother) was my right hand, the go-to “Navy Seal”. My life took a wild turn, as he passed away suddenly. BAD LUCK has reared it’s ugly head, the struggle again was even more evident. With our business barely months in, it was crazy to imagine going any further.
But good luck was on its way. “Never bring family into business” is all I heard for the next few months. What did I do, call my 2 cousins who I thought would be a great fit for the company. They accepted their respective positions and now we’re headed in the proper direction. The time is now, let’s get it!
