Meet Sandy Noto of Sandy Noto Photography in South Loop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Noto.

Sandy , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For the last couple of years, I have been freelancing as a photographer and GIF-maker. I loved working on creative projects and going on photo shoots but it got harder and harder to juggle with my job. Eventually, I was working most evenings and weekends and realized that I needed to make a choice. It was scary to leave behind the safety of my regular career but it’s been an amazing decision. I love all the projects I work on and the control I have over my life now.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working for myself has been a roller coaster, mostly fun but definitely a bit bumpy. For me, the best part of being a photographer is the photography but being a small business owner means I have to do so much more than that. There’s been a learning curve of figuring out sales, marketing, taxes and accounting. I’ve learned that I can’t do everything myself and even though I’m not part of a company, I can ask for help and hire specialists along the way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sandy Noto Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I started Sandy Noto Photography in the summer of 2017 to create a structure around the photography work that I was doing. A lot of my work focuses on helping brands, individuals and other small businesses visually present themselves for their marketing, websites and social media. I approach each new project with a lot of research and work to create a cohesive but distinctive look for each client.

Currently, I’m still in the very early stages of running my business so, I’ve been working to create a structure and value system that will hopefully carry me through many years of business.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
At the moment, I’m trying not to get too many steps ahead of myself. I would like to create some sort of studio space and bring on an assistant but that’s likely a few years down the road at the moment.
