Meet Ryan Alioto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Alioto.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My story began in 2015 when I first purchased my dslr camera. The standing rule in the Alioto household is if you want something like an iPad or camera etc. something like that you have to buy it yourself, that way if you break it or something happens to it, you’re the one held responsible. So, I saved up Best Buy gift cards and cash from my birthdays, Christmas until I finally had enough to buy my first camera!

Please tell us about your art.
I am very big into street/cityscape photography! The reason I love street/cityscape is because there is always something challenging about it that I have to work around to get a good image. Weather if it’s the weather conditions downtown, the lighting, etc. My favorite aspect of cityscape photography is taking finding a new way to create an image that’s been taken millions of times by millions of people. My inspiration for my photography is trying to turn a basic, cliché picture into something unique, fresh and exciting is important to me! Something I want anyone who reads this is to know you don’t need a fancy expensive camera to create amazing images. A lot of the times I don’t have quick access to my camera in my bag so I work with what I have and use my iPhone camera.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Personally I think the role of artists has changed and is even more important now than it ever was. Almost everyone is on some sort of social media these days and is a big part in getting artists known and recognized! I think nationally my art of photography for the city of Chicago has created events but in a good way. Once in a while I will get a direct message from someone saying they will be visiting Chicago and want cool places to shoot and I am all for letting people know where I shoot my images because I want them to get the experience I had when I went to a certain place and create a cool image for themselves as well.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
