Meet Rona Borre of Instant Alliance in The Loop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rona Borre.

Rona, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I founded Instant Technology in 2001 after a successful career in Sales/Recruiting. I believe firmly that bringing the best quality talent to our clients was the most important aspect of recruiting and wanted to start an organization where I could attract like-minded people to aid in making Chicago a hub of technology innovation.

Over the years I have played a critical role in the reinvention of several Fortune 100 and mid-sized clients throughout Chicagoland. My firm and reputation continued to grow, so I launched new business offerings and strategic consulting services per my client’s request.

Instant Technology has grown from a small business in the second bedroom of my condo to a thriving company with more than 100 employees. My goal has always been to pair premier talent with clients to help drive measurable business results.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe that, like everything in life, there are ups and downs in business. I have absolutely had my successes and failures. I have had to restructure my organization twice and have learned a great deal from the difficulties I’ve faced. I look back at my journey and sometimes can’t believe I am still standing. Just when I think I have it figured out, I learn something else.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that you have to keep a close eye on your financials. I was always a more trusting executive and never really a “Numbers” CEO. It took a lot of learning, but I do know the impact that everything has on my P&L and I have dedicated myself to learning more each day.

What were you like growing up?
While I was growing up, I struggled with severe learning disabilities. I often spent my time in a specialized learning resource room where I would receive extra support from tutors and teachers, but from a very young age, I learned I would have to advocate for myself.

I learned how to talk to leaders in the school in order to work around the challenges I encountered. Learning was exceptionally hard for me, and my high school counselor told me that I shouldn’t plan on attending college. My resolve to excel in school grew tenfold. I was focused on proving them, and anyone else who doubted me, wrong.

I was admitted into University of Arizona’s SALT program for students with learning challenges. I continued to advocate for myself, continued to work harder than I thought I could, and I made it out of my freshmen year with a 4.0 GPA. I wasn’t an average child, but I learned early through hard work and dedication I could achieve anything I set my mind to.

I held true to that principle through college, received my Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Marketing, and have been able to found and operate my own business because of my work ethic I developed so long ago.
