Robert, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been promoting antique shows, antique markets, specialty flea markets (all-night and Haunted Halloween markets), pop-culture cons, Civil War shows and others for forty-eight (48) continuous years!! Started as a dealer in 1968, on the south side of Chicago and have never looked back! Our events draw dealers and collectors plus treasure hunters from throughout the Midwest and beyond. Our National Civil War show draws collectors from throughout the US and internationally! The late-niters draw 100s of vendors and 1000s of customers (Night-Fleas). Many celebrities have attended these events as guests. Our Monthly Grayslake Antique and Vintage Flea Market, hosts MANY dealers in it’s 75,000 square-foot facility and also outdoors! TODAY, we are the LARGEST promoters of high-energy, fun events primarily in the Chicagoland area, PLUS Wisconsin AND Michigan! Our website: www.zurkopromotions.com.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been “smoothly-bumpy”! There have been MANY challenges and rewards, as the promotion business has changed and evolved continuously. The biggest challenging has to get younger people involved and interested in antiques and collections. However, we are now seeing more young people getting involved,as they are inheriting their parents collections and accumulations, and are seeing the rewards that are becoming available to them as they start to liquidate and get involved as small business “entrepreneurs”! EXTREMELY popular to young people have been our “CHICAGO Pop-Culture Cons, at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL (Chicago Suburb). Challenges and rewards are the nature of any business. Challenges are the stepping-stone to success. It is better to be “Challenged”… than be nothing at all!

We promote specialty events in the upper Midwest, especially the CHICAGOLAND area! Events include antique markets, flea markets, Civil War shows, antique shows, postcard shows, music shows, bottle shows, toy shows, etc. What sets us apart from our competitors, is our continuous (48 year) commitment to our dealers and customers who have followed us for decades to give them show management of the highest quality and integrity and to give them great value for their time and investment!
