Meet Rachael Martinson of Midwest Dimples

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Martinson.

Rachael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been working in medical sales my whole career and while I love the sciences and the everyday challenges sales have given me, I also love to be creative. I have always been inspired by other bloggers and wanted to start something of my own in which I could inspire people in the way others have inspired me.

That’s when I started Midwest Dimples, my lifestyle blog, and it has given me a creative outlet that I needed. Whether it’s through DIY projects, cooking, budgeting hacks, decorating or documenting my travels, it’s something that makes me feel very fulfilled. I have poured a lot of time, energy, and heart into my projects and love to share what, how, and why I did it and if it touches or inspires one person, I am fulfilled.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are never enough hours in a day. Trying to find a balance with career, busy toddler, being a good wife, preparing for new baby (I’m pregnant), doing projects, learning the blogging business, and creating content; it is a balance that I am still trying to perfect. There is always something I feel I should and could be doing, however, I realize that sometimes done is better than perfect.

I could spend hours tweaking and perfecting everything, so I have to take a step back and remind myself that perfection can be an enemy of progress. Everything I’m trying to perfect gets better and everything I’m doing improves and gets easier. By working hard during the day, spending quality time with toddler and hubby after work, and focusing on projects and blog at night, I’m able to find the balance and enjoy all of the above.

I entered this blogging world in need of a creative outlet and to document my journey. However, there is so much to the blogging business than just writing content and as a non-techy person, this created a lot of challenges. I’m the type of person that wants to know how to do things versus hiring someone to do it for me.

I’ve taught myself the basics of search engine optimization, affiliate marketing, design, photography, videography, and although there’s still so much more to learn and improve on, I’m extremely proud of what I have been able to accomplish.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Midwest Dimples – what should we know?
Midwest Dimples is a lifestyle blog that gives daily doses of motherhood, travel, décor, DIY projects, easy recipes, and other aspects of daily life and my journey through it. I am not an expert in what I write about, but I try to make it relatable, affordable, and doable.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I would have to say, my husband, Eric, is my number one fan and hype man. He is always the first to say how proud he is of me and if I’m ever feeling down, he immediately slaps me back into a positive mindset and has encouraged me every step of the way. He is definitely my optimistic lying to my pessimistic yang when I feel frustrated. I am so thankful to have his support and bless his patient-heart because he is the man behind the camera 90% of the time.
