Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Palmeri.
Philip, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My training goes back to the days of Vidal Sassoon. I started as an apprentice. I went on to becoming a color department head and assistant manager before moving on to work at a different salon. In 1992, two former Vidal Sassoon stylists and myself opened up Trio on Walton Street in Chicago. We expanded to three locations before breaking off to become independent salons. I now own and manage the Evanston location, which I renamed as trio Evanston Atelier to distinguish it as an independent company. Trio Evanston has been serving the North Side of Chicago for 17 years now and we’re still going strong!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenges have been finding and maintaining stylists and colorists, particularly since this is a departmentalized salon. Not everyone sees how good this is, since it offers the highest quality hair services possible. Not every stylist can color well and not every colorist can cut hair. It’s also been challenging to keep up with all the trends. It’s vital to have young staff that offer their insight and enable the salon to go on for many years to come.

We specialize in cut and color. We also focus on providing ongoing training for all our employees, regardless of age. Additionally, we offer a more luxurious salon experience, leaving guests feeling pampered and appreciated.
What were you like growing up?
As the youngest of my siblings, I was a kind of quiet kid. This taught me the importance of compromise. Originally, I thought I was going to be a police officer. I ended up seeing a hair show one day, and it completely changed my career goals.
