Meet Paul Kloiber of Source 1 in Northburbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Kloiber.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Paul. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always the kid with the music. Whether it was records, tapes, CDs, etc. I started DJing small parties for friends in 1979 when I was 13. Doing it on the side and eventually getting hired by a company as their equipment manager and as a wedding DJ. In 1990 I struck out on my own and opened Source 1 on the NW side of the city (Brickyard area). I was solo for 4 years before hiring two friends who were also DJs. We covered such a huge area (Chicago to Milwaukee and all points in between) that I eventually moved the office up by the border, midway between. The company grew and grew until by 2007 we had 8 DJs and 10 full systems. In October of 2007 I took the company down a notch to be around more for my four children. After a 4 year hiatus, I rebooted the company with a whole new focus. We trimmed our staff down to 4 DJs and upgraded all of our equipment. We added LED up-lighting, new speakers, and monogram projectors. In five years (2012 – 2016) we have won 3 consecutive Best Wedding DJ Awards and back to back Couple’s Choice Awards for Wedding Wire. We are constantly pushing to lead the pack among the DJs in our area and are working hard to win awards again in 2017.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never a smooth road. We have overcome some pretty big hurdles. From DJs quitting because of Bridezillas to members of a wedding party assaulting a DJ because they were drunk. We have had competing DJ companies post false negative reviews to hurt our credibility. Through it all the last 5 years, my crew has kept their heads up and followed our motto of making every wedding and party the best you’ve ever heard.

Please tell us about Source 1.
Source 1 is a full service mobile DJ company. We provide top quality DJs, sound, lighting, up-lighting and monograms for all kinds of parties. Our specialty is weddings. We provide music for ceremonies, full receptions and even after wedding celebrations following a destination wedding. We even have licensed Officiants to perform wedding marriages.

Source 1 has earned a reputation for going the extra mile for our clients and making sure that their events are done the way they want them. In over 26 years in business we have never shown up and used a predetermined playlist or played the same set list twice.

All of us are very proud of what we do every day, but we are most proud of the fact that we are an extended family. From the children of the owner working in multiple positions to our two lead DJs being friends since kindergarten (46 years). Everyone here supports everyone else without question.

Source 1 sets itself apart simply by delivering on what we say we will do. We do our very best each and every time and we genuinely care about getting the details right. We always listen to what our clients want, we offer our best advice based on our years of experience, but always do it the client’s way.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have kept the company small. When we were doing eight weddings every Saturday we couldn’t keep the level of personalized service people expected from us. Our crew now is four DJs, with one person always off the rotation each week as an emergency back-up just in case.
