Meet Oscar Garcia and Sergio Casillas of Dos Amigos Mexican Restaurante in Libertyville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Garcia and Sergio Casillas.

Sergio Casillas has been in the food industry since the age of 13-14 years old. He developed his love for cooking from his beloved mother and ever since he starting peeling and cutting fruits and vegetables he has not look back.

After working several restaurants and country clubs learning the ins and outs of the kitchen he went to work for a very famous company out of Highland Park Illinois where he spent nearly three decades helping develop all recipes and helping make the company a household name, Although in the back of his mind he always reminisce about Mom’s cooking, wondering if he could actually bring her recipes to life and actually sell them to the public.
That is how the idea of having a place he could call his own was born.

Oscar Garcia grew up in Mexico City until his early twenties when he moved to The USA. A food fanatic that grew up trying to help mom in her own little kitchen as much as he could while still attending school.

Once in The USA he was fortunate enough to work in a bunch if different restaurants learning to cook and dreaming to one day own his own restaurant.

He came to work under Sergio’s wing at about age 24 and worked for the same company for almost two decades and developed a special bond with Sergio whom he seemed as, not only a friend, but as a father figure.

One day while having a conversation they both were reminiscing about their childhood and how much they loved their homemade meals with all of their own respective family members and what good times they used to have sharing time with everyone.

Sergio wondered out loud.”why can’t we do this on a larger scale, have our own recipes made from scratch, fresh, the way we used to be when we were children”?

Oscar then, also wondered out loud, “Yes!!! We can then treat everyone as family members! That is how Dos Amigos Mexican Restaurant was born. Fresh, made from scratch meals served with love and dedication.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Plenty of struggles but we wouldn’t change anything.

We love what we do and when you love what you do you are not working!

Dos Amigos Mexican Restaurante – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
A small family owned restaurant that serves authentic, Mexican food with homemade recipes passed down for a couple generations.

We at Dos Amigos (owners and staff) take a lot of pride serving quality meals in a nice clean environment with excellent customer service.

We can only speak for ourselves, our food is always fresh, we have our own butcher that comes in and cuts our meats daily and all vegetables and sauces are made every single day.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Everyone that comes in here leaves with a smile.
