Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Papier and Kim Daunis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We met 4 years ago at an elementary school fundraiser and bonded over our love tendency to hoard vintage furniture and decor. With us both having an entrepreneurial spirit we started holding local vintage pop-up shops to share our love for design and decor.
It was a natural progression into home styling as many of our customers asked us to bring our unique design style into their homes. Home Ec. was born! We started small and as word spread we found our place in the market. Our love for vintage and a little eclectic quirk became our signature.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been fortunate with a smooth journey. Our business has been built off of word of mouth and it’s kept us very busy… While most clients come to us based on their love for our style, it can be challenging at times to push them a little outside their comfort zone.
Our biggest challenge is finding the time in-between clients to uncover the vintage treasures we use so frequently in our projects. It is these items that truly make a home unique and define our style.
Home Ec. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We pride ourselves on thinking outside the design box. As home stylists, we have a love for taking our client’s style and infusing it with vintage and modern touches to truly make their home unique.
We are known for our bold cold palette, funky wallpaper choices, eclectic furnishings and an affordable approach to design. You don’t have to break the bank to have good style! It’s ok to have champagne taste on a beer budget…
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
While we feel like every completed and happy client is a victory to celebrate, we are really proud of the media exposure we have received. We have been fortunate that our projects have been featured with Design Sponge, Joybird, Chicago Parent Magazine and Wednesday Journal.
