Today we’d like to introduce you to Nabil Khalifa.
Nabil Khalifa is the co-founder of Sigma Fit Worldwide and CEO of the company’s USA Branch.
Nabil received his engineering degree from Civil Aviation Engineering Academy in Cairo, Egypt. Shortly after he conferred his degree, Nabil began working full time as a petroleum engineer for Schlumberger, one of the world’s largest oilfield companies. Nabil also launched his first e-commerce business, Menidy, where he sold Khiamia quilts, cotton scarves and several other Egyptian handmade artifacts. Avid to be more active in the world of business, he left mechanical engineering to pursue his startup digital marketing agency, Hive Society.
Shortly after Hive Society grew in success, Nabil followed his entrepreneurial intuition and shifted his efforts towards revolutionizing the fitness world by joining forces with his long-time friends, Omar El Metwally and Islam Rashwan, to create a tech-wear brand that helped modernize fitness apparel and change people’s lives. As Co-founder and CEO of Sigma Fit, he achieved those goals by developing durable, functional, and stain-resistant activewear that actually works.
Although building capital, finding manufacturers, and launching in the Middle East has been a difficult journey, the need to do so became even more restless after meeting and falling in love with his wife, Colette Ghunim, an American Videographer. After a long and straining wait of 4 years, Nabil finally was approved for a Visa to come to the United States, marry Colette, and start a life with her. Currently, Sigma Fit has launched in North America and continues to be a growing success in Egypt and Kuwait. With great ambitious goals, Nabil is now determined to realize his dreams of building a future with Colette and making Sigma Fit one of the top tech-wear brands in America.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, starting the business in Egypt was extremely difficult, we had to struggle with our basic needs as good Internet speed and accessible data, however we overcame this and became one of the fastest growing startups in less than 2 years, and after I moved to Chicago, I learned that I had no time to waste, so I started to go to networking event only three days after I landed in Chicago, I met some great people and built a great network of friends and professionals. Also since I moved to Chicago I’ve been working for almost 12-14 hrs. a day, I do Uber part-time to cover my living expenses and the rest of my day I work on building Sigma Fit and my future projects. I believe that Chicago is one of the best cities in the world, the amount of support that I received here is incredible and pushing me forward to give back to the community, that’s why I build my company here and hoping to be one of the best tech-wear brands all over the world so I can give back to the City that I love the most.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sigma Fit story. Tell us more about the business.
Sigma Fit is all about technology, we want to change how people think about their fitness clothing, we see that our clothing should perform better, we shouldn’t worry about washing them and Ironing them that often, we should have our clothes interact with our bodies in a helpful way, and that’s why we created Sigma Fit and that’s why we think we’re different because our goal is to start the tech-wear revolution.
We’re launching our most advanced product in a few weeks on KickStarter, It’s a Gym and Travel bag that has UV-Light and O3 purifier that can clean your bag and clothes from germs, bacteria, mold and fungus. It’s a bag that will solve problems of thousands of people who have to suffer from bad odors or have to keep washing their clothes every time after they workout.
