Meet Micayla Diener

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micayla Diener.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I was extremely passionate about theater. I participated in performance troupes, trained intensely for dance theater and acting, and devoted most of my life to the stage. As I grew older, I realized the theatre was not really where I wanted to be. My mother is an independent event planner, and I was always in awe of the final result of each event she planned. So, with that new path in mind, I switched college majors and received my degree in Hospitality Management. From there, I explored a variety of options before ending up where I am today – an internship at a country club, event/restaurant manager at a prominent city club, sales in audiovisual, and my current sales position at CSI DMC. From hours of polishing silverware, talking with members daily, creating experiences for 10 guests, and running transportation for over 2000 people, each element of my experience has been beneficial and important for growing my career to what it is today. I truly am beyond grateful for where I have landed today.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were tough bosses, misunderstandings, wake up calls and a-ha moments. I think everyone needs a little muddy water to really understand who they are. I truly believe we learn from our mistakes – overcoming our challenges makes us stronger the next time around. I have been incredibly fortunate to have a mentor who has guided me through many of the rough patches.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the CSI DMC story.
I currently work for CSI DMC, one of the top 25 recognized DMC’s. DMC stands for Destination Management Company where we are a turnkey solution for corporate groups in need of event planning in a certain destination. Currently, I am based at our Chicago location. We specialize in providing exceptional experiences for guests including: transportation, offsite and onsite receptions, décor, teambuilding, meeting management, staffing, entertainment and more. Over its 31 years, CSI DMC has grown from a one destination office to be able to serve our clients across the country and around the globe. As a company, we have a retention rate of 85% of our repeat clients, who continue to come back to work with us. I think our attention to detail, our expertise, and our fresh ideas really set us apart. With our dedicated departments such as transportation, creative services, account management, event management, we are able to be experts in the services we offer. I have never worked for a company that is so passionate about its employees’ success and wellbeing which is, in turn, reflected in our relationships with our clients. I couldn’t be happier to be part of this amazing, growing team.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The hospitality industry is ever changing. I think we will continue to grow along with the unique trends including interactive and technological, but still staying true to our core which is producing exceptional experiences.
