Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Park.
Namaste Mia. Before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started practicing yoga as a cardio kickboxing instructor and actress. I was thrilled by the physical sensation of stretching my body to its limits and challenging myself in this new, physical way. Eventually, the energetic, mental and spiritual effects of yoga became my priority and I began to take yoga teacher trainings in order to better understand the cosmic connection between my mind, spirit, and body. Inevitably, I began teaching and became a teacher who is also a perennial student practicing various systems of yoga as a way of living. I embrace the physical yoga practice as a part of an elegant system of self-discovery that includes contemplative and other practices that promote self-inquiry. With self-awareness, a life of purpose can be lived. As an actress and producer, yoga balances who I am and what I do.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I struggled with teaching yoga and still do! Without challenges, there is no growth. As uncomfortable as it is to be provoked , I welcome the struggle. I currently wrestle with being as authentic as possible as an actress and yoga teacher. I want to spend more quiet time with myself, but feel that the demands of constantly hustling to act and teach, combined with my ambition to lead yoga training and retreats, are tough. But I love my lifestyle and will never trade it for a 9-5 desk job; that’s just not me.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I teach yoga to encourage self-inquiry, health, and well-being.
I specialize in: yoga nidra or yoga sleep; linking physical exercise with energy and mental practices to promote balance; trauma-informed yoga; teaching to a variety of clientele simultaneously; connecting to my students; and not taking myself too seriously!
I am known for an energetic, upbeat yoga session that is challenging mentally, energetically, and physically.
I am most proud of my relationship with my private clients. I am so fortunate to have a special connection with them – our relationships are personal, meaningful and genuine.
What sets me apart from others is my enthusiasm and hopefulness towards my students’ journey. I bring a heap of positive energy to my yoga teachings and, combined with my continual yoga studies, I teach with enough confidence to support my students as much as I’m able.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was SUPER talkative and friendly. I demanded and gave attention to everyone I met, everywhere I went. My mom had to carry me away from people I’d walk up to and begin conversations with. Things haven’t changed much – I remain a people person and hopeful extrovert.
