Meet Marciano Eilender of Trusty Craftsman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marciano Eilender.

Marciano, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I was a child I have always been fascinated with how things work and operate. In kindergarten, we had show and tell and I brought a toolbox – not a fake plastic one but a real tool box with metal screw drivers, a hammer, pliers and other tools a handyman might have. My parents then bought me a large red toolbox for my birthday that year which made me ecstatic, and I memorized the names of my tools and then worked with my dad to build my mom a bird feeder. I later built my own car and became very invested in the process from researching car parts to replacing parts on my car by hand, using internet videos and books to guide me. Ideas drive me to create solutions, and I have a lot of ideas for how to help people live easier and happier lives. My childhood was not always happy, it was hard growing up in foster care as a child for many reasons, but especially because I experienced time away from my family that was hard to comprehend as a kid. The experience of being away from them gave me the determination, resilience, hope and fire inside to develop Trusty Craftsman – and turn my childhood dream of helping people with their projects into reality.

Has it been a smooth road?
I always knew this was my path, and with any great thing, comes trials and tribulations. Many decisions had to be made along the way, and I’ve altered my personal life and work schedule to accommodate flexible work hours. Perfection: being okay with things not being perfect the first round. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect, and I learned the most important thing is launching – learning comes later. This was difficult because I wanted everything right away. Starting a business has been nothing in comparison to some of the struggles I faced in life as a child in foster care because that involved a lot of moving and uncertainty, which made me resilient today and able to roll with the punches.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Trusty Craftsman – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Trusty Craftsman is committed to bringing the best handymen, IT professionals, and project design experts to our clients. Our goal is to bring together an ethical and professional workforce and provide high quality home solutions to clients. We serve homeowners, renters, students, the elderly, and Chicagoland residents.

I am motivated by people, the clients we serve, and getting to know their needs and situation drives me to deliver high quality solutions. This is the motivation behind Trusty Craftsman. I especially enjoy projects for first time home owners – this is a specialty of ours – who are navigating the decision-making process for the first time when it comes to their home base. A home is an investment for future growth and opportunity, and our team likes to be known for investing in people’s future. I like to act as a copartner in their decision-making process, instead of an outside party, by getting to know my clients’ personal interests and lifestyle.

As a company, we are proud of our commitment to high quality service and diverse portfolio. Here are some examples of work we’ve done in 2017 that we are proud of: build a home server with high speed internet and a wide data storing capabilities to fuel a business owner’s productivity at home; build shelves and custom compartments for a Lincoln Park family looking to revamp their wine cellar space; prep an Evanston couple’s home before move in by working day and night to paint, install electrical appliances, and lay tile – all tasks that helped the family feel at home come move in day.

Our ability to cater to a wide variety of needs sets us apart from others.

To be successful in this type of work requires a lot of resilience, knowledge, reliability, and focused hard work. While working on a project that seems to have a long lifeline – and many home improvement projects do if they are completed properly – tunnel vision is key, so you can narrow in on the task at hand with blinders on that enable you to reach the end of the task swiftly and move on to the next. Resilience is critical when faced with manual labor because each task requires a bit of sweat, so one must be able to bounce back after each accomplishment and move to the next. Finally, knowledge of a craftsman is what enables one to be successful in this business. While a simple fix involves tape and a glue gun, a craftsman’s work involves research, consultation, and hands on experience with materials and creative projects.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The variety of Chicago sets this city apart from the rest and makes it a welcoming place of difference in terms of food, neighborhoods, and people. Not to mention, there is phenomenal architecture in this city, from the Chicago river views to the layout of Lake Shore Drive, it was well designed, which gives me inspiration for my own work and the detail that goes into every job. In terms of my least favorite part, the violence in the south side is heartbreaking. I’m inspired to use my platform with Trusty Craftsman to reach youth and at-risk populations who could benefit from learning a new trade.
