Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucie Duran.
Lucie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hey everyone! I’m better known on social media as MakeupByLucieXO. I am 26 years old and have 3 beautiful daughters who are my everything. You probably think I’ve been doing this makeup thing forever but honestly, I haven’t. Growing up, I was really into art. Every chance I was able to sign up for an art elective, I did. My art was displayed in a couple of art shows so the artist in me has always been there and this was something I enjoyed doing.
One day, bored out of my mind, I stumbled upon makeup tutorials and I was hooked! I was amazed at the transformations that I saw but most importantly how much one was able to express themselves with the art of makeup. I watched hours and hours of videos and then just kept on practicing and practicing. I was super shy so I was very hesitant about sharing this with the world. I was afraid of judgment. But then one day, I just did and I received so much love and then someone asked me, “Can you do my makeup?” I couldn’t believe someone loved my work that much that they were willing to pay me!
So, I jumped on that and that’s when MakeupByLucieXO was created. At first, I started taking clients for glam makeup but then wedding season came around and I was booking entire bridal parties. The satisfaction that I receive from making someone feel and look like a princess on their big day is indescribable.
Here we are now. I book for weddings, special occasions, dates nights… not only booking clients but brands also reach out to me to create content for their products. Content such as videos, tutorials, product shots. I am hoping to continue growing and one day own my own brand.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There’s a whole lot of competition out there. There are bigger makeup artists who work out of a studio or have their own studio. I just work from home. My other struggle is that this isn’t my full-time gig but I’m working towards making that possible.

MakeupByLucieXO is a makeup artist. I specialize in booking bridal, bridal parties, and special event makeup services. I am most proud of how much I’ve grown on social media. I have almost 15k followers on all social media platforms. What sets me apart is that I not only book clients but also engage with my audience across social media creating content, tutorials, and teaching others about products that I enjoy using.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
In this industry, you have to be open to continuous learning. There are so many trends that change from day to day and it’s important to learn them and be able to use them in your own art. People are looking for what’s in at that moment. Expanding your knowledge, learning something new, and being able to teach that to others will help you be successful.
