Today we’d like to introduce you to Louis, Joseph, Anthony Rago.
The founder of the business, Louis Rago, Louis H.’s grandfather, began in the funeral service industry, in 1905. In 1917, he built the 1st funeral home in the city of Chicago and took in his brother as a partner. The original building still stands at 624. N. Western, and is still in operation by Louis, and the founder’s great-grandsons, Joseph and Anthony.
The family has since expanded the areas of operation to include a newer location at 7751 W. Irving in Chicago., and recently acquired and operate Acacia Park Cemetery and Crematory at 7800 W. Irving.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been relatively successful over four generations of service because we have always managed to adapt to the changes in the industry while maintaining the tradition of personalized service to each family who has entrusted the care of their loved one to us.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rago Brothers Funeral Homes – what should we know?
We are most proud of the fact that we are into our fourth generation of service, still family owned and operated. Our business clientele, which was once 95% ethnic Italian, is now multi-ethnic and racial. We never refused service to a family based on their ethnicity, race or religion, and have become quite proficient in all aspects of funeral service from simple cremation to traditional burial to shipping remains to home states or countries.
There is always one member of the Rago family “on call”, and callers with emergency needs are responded to within minutes of their initial call to us.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Personalized service. Beautiful facilities. Affordable prices.
