Meet Laura Burke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Burke.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Music has always been a special part of my life. I grew up putting on little shows with my siblings and performing in musical theatre. I started writing songs at the age of 11 and started recording myself with a two tape deck karaoke machine at the age of 13. In college, (Illinois State University) I was lucky to learn about the major Arts Technology emphasizing in music. There, I learned about recording, sound, and audio manipulation. I started recording and producing songs in my dorm room. In 2015 I started a band “Burke Valley” that got me performing my own original songs to a larger audience for the first time. We ended up winning “Chicago Suburbans Got Talent 2015” which helped began my journey into the Chicago Music scene. For the past three years I have experimented with many genres, artist, musicians, and sounds to help mold my own vibration. I released my first self-produced debut EP “Lost” November 2017. This year, I have released two singles “Take” and “Rebound” that are available on all streaming platforms.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a singer, songwriter, producer, and unicorn. I create music.

Music is therapeutic for me and helps me express myself, feelings, the world around me, perspectives, instincts, sounds, thoughts, and emotions. I get inspired by many things, but a lot of what I write about is what I’m going through at the time. When words aren’t enough music always is. Writing songs has helped me find my truth so many times when I myself didn’t know what I was even writing about.

I hope my music can be a tool for others to relate to and feel. I always hope to send a positive message and make people feel good and happy. However, not everything in life is great and I have songs that reflect on those times. Life has so many ups and downs and some of my best songs have come out of very dark places.
I hope to inspire people to stay positive and keep dreaming.

As Anna Nalick puts it so perfectly “Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud” explains my artwork pretty perfectly. If I am writing or singing on a track, it’s coming from my soul completely.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
This is something that I have and currently struggle with. Trying to find a balance between finance and art is very difficult. I have found giving myself deadlines makes it easier for me to focus on one project at a time allowing time for me to focus on finances. Performing is always a great way to make some extra side cash and diving into other talents you have can be very lucrative.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find my music on all streaming platforms (iTunes, Spotify, Tidal, Google Play etc.) and follow me @LauraBurkeMusic on social media. You can support me by coming out to shows, sharing my music, or even just sending good vibes! Anything and everything helps.
