Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Ann Reavis.
Kerri Ann, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
“Journey with me for the last five years of my life in Expressionism. I never knew I would make art as a career until the age of 42. It was then that I found my true calling as it brought forth changes inside of me. My life’s desire to express myself came easily through my work, which has created many new beginnings and discoveries along the way.”
Has it been a smooth road?
I didn’t choose this career path, it chose me. I started painting out of the blue because my good friend (who is my husband now) pushed me. He saw something in me that I had a hard time believing. With Sean’s support and encouragement, it gave me the confidence to trust that I had a God-given gift. It has been a lot of hard work, but I absolutely love what I do and feel grateful that I can make a career out of my art!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kerri Ann Gallery story. Tell us more about the business.
My business, Kerri Ann Gallery, is fine art paintings. I started in realism, but as I got more comfortable, my work transformed into abstract expressionism. It was then that my career took off. My art is very different in that I developed a method on canvas using what I call, “liquid metals”. I paint with a metal-based paint and then add chemicals to oxidize the painting. Iron turns to rust and copper to verdigris.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
This year, I am focusing on galleries and inside shows. Years of juried art shows outside has now brought me inside. I have my first solo show at Water Street Studios in Batavia from May 11 to June 3rd. It will be the first time Water Street has had only one artist as a solo show in their gallery!
