Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Morlan.
Katie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my fashion career in 2010 after graduating with an Art and Design degree with a Fashion Design concentration from Columbia Chicago College. In the past, I worked for notable designers and companies such as BCBG Max Azria, United Colors of Benetton, Nordstrom, MP Management Chicago, Virgin Hotels Chicago and Kendra Scott. I have always had a strong focus on the fashion industry with a major emphasis on hospitality.
I began to work for Kendra Scott in 2015 as a part-time employee at our Michigan Avenue location and fell in love with the company culture. I became a Key Holder and then Assistant Event Manager. Our local teams (Michigan Avenue, Southport Ave, and Oak Brook) have worked so hard in building the brand and I am eager to open our fourth Chicago store this summer at Old Orchard Mall as the Community Relations and Event Manager. Kendra Scott’s pillars of family, fashion and philanthropy are values that I cherish and I find each day rewarding knowing that I work for a company that shares the same goals as mine.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have worked two jobs throughout the majority of my life. The road hasn’t always been smooth but has made me consistently reliable, strong, and versatile. It has shown me the worth of living a quality life and that the hustle is part of the journey to a greater destination.
Please tell us about Kendra Scott.
Kendra Scott is a fashion lifestyle brand of big dreams, colorful confidence, and inspired design. Founded on family, fashion and philanthropy, we believe that our employees and customers are the heart and soul of our brand and that giving back is the truest form of success. We are known for our beautiful natural gemstones, customized shapes and for always making an impact in the community.
My job as the Community Relations and Event Manager is to create relationships with the North Shore community and give back in any way possible, small or large. We partner with several organizations, businesses and non-profits to host “Kendra Gives Back” events in our local stores or at charity events. We always have something to give whether it be for a national cause, a local organization, or a friend in need. Our philanthropy efforts are what set us apart from other retailers. Wearing a piece of our jewelry shows that you are a part of something bigger, a movement of doing good. What I am most proud of at working for Kendra Scott is how inspiring and uplifting Kendra herself is and to see how it has trickled down into every aspect of this company. Every day I get to walk into my office and know I am going to make someone happy by as little as helping a customer design their dream necklace at our Color Bar or by fundraising with bringing a “Kendra Gives Back” event to life.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started working for Kendra Scott a long time ago.
