Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Sierra.
Juan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I put photography on the side once I moved from Colombia to the States. While trying to make a living and getting used to the language and culture, I started my own remodeling company. After a few years and hoping to do something more for fun and not for the money, I went back to studying photography. Then one day I bought the most expensive lens without having the camera to use it (true story). So how I started? Determination and passion, that’s all!
My wife and I always dreamed of working together, from home, and to travel doing what we love… and that’s exactly what we do as wedding photographers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As an entrepreneur, there is always something you have to learn but that’s the magic of having your own business; that is the business itself the one that guides you on the right path.
One of the biggest barriers, before I started working as a wedding photographer, was the ability to communicate in a foreign language. Photography and especially weddings are about connecting with others, to be yourself and communicate with others is key. Once I accepted that my accent was part of my essence, I start focusing on what’s really important while enjoying the journey.
Please tell us about Juancho SC Photography.
We are a husband and wife photography team. We specialize in local and destination weddings. Our vision is to offer unique, artistic and touching images to genuine couples creating an easy and fun experience from beginning to end.
We truly believe that our responsibility by being invited to be part of a wedding day is to bring the best energy possible, being part of the solution, and celebrate by the side of our couples and their families while capturing unforgettable memories; That´s probably the key of our business so far.
We´re very passionate about love and photography and we take advantage of this passion to push ourselves forward every time we´re doing a wedding. We´re not afraid of trying new technics, new places, and new things; by being adventurist we have had the opportunity to create some of our best shots and connect with the most amazing people and cultures.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
It may sound cliché but without all the mistakes we´ve done, I don´t think we would be the same, both personal and professionally. Thanks to those mistakes in the past and the ones we still make, is that we´re always looking to improve and be better.
