Today we’d like to introduce you to John Daly.
John, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was an advisor on the retail side of the business for 10 years. I worked for two of the largest brokerage firms. I’ve always been fascinated with investing and helping people make the best decisions to either accumulate wealth or protect and preserve the wealth they currently have. I found limitations being on the retail side of the business and working for large corporations. It seemed like the client was at the bottom of the totem pole. I knew I could change that so in 2009 I formed Daly Investment Management as an independent registered investment advisor. Our sole focus is to provide sound, unbiased investment advice to individuals and families.
Has it been a smooth road?
Haha, that is a common misconception about successful businesses. Your expectations when you start are usually different than reality. For me, it was how was I going to get in front of investors or people who needed advice – especially being this small boutique firm with all of these big corporate firms as my competition. You find ways to adapt to get your message out. It’s never a smooth road when starting a business from scratch. There are lots of bumps in the road and re-directions. However, if you keep your vision and you are persistent to achieve what you set out to achieve – you can and in most cases will be successful. But again, that success always comes with adversity.

We are a Registered Investment Advisor. We specialize in comprehensive financial planning and investment management. Basically, we help individuals, families and small business owners make smart decisions with their money. A lot of our business is either helping people accumulate wealth for retirement or protecting and preserving that wealth in retirement.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is a great city. Lots of energy and opportunity exist here. Also, Chicago is very diverse, so you access to many different people and cultures. Basically a good community for almost any business. Except for palm trees – probably not the best market for palm trees, but that’s okay we’ll leave that to FL and CA.
