Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Stadler and Shirley Kienitz.
Wolfbait & B-girls opened up shop on April 1st, 2006, with a mission to highlight local Chicago designers. We craft our respective collections, Bruiser and Brazen Judy, in store. From concept to consumer, pattern making to price tags, it’s all happening before your eyes at Wolfbait.
The name Wolfbait & B-girls is a nod to Chicago, the 1940 guidebook “Chicago Confidential” defines Wolfbait as girls flocking to the city seeking success. And B-girls as what they sometimes turn into. Think B-side, B-movie, bad girl, Bruiser and Brazen Judy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The cost of doing business in a city with such infamous politics has not knocked the wind out of our sails yet. We manage to succeed here mainly because of our community’s support. Each artist faces their own challenges as they prioritize. Some are aiming at the national market, while others make for the sake of making. Also, the rise of online shopping has become somewhat of a challenge for us as well. We strive to promote shopping locally, in person, and the popularity of online shopping can make that difficult.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wolfbait & B-girls – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Wolfbait is a fashion, accessories and gift boutique featuring over 250 local designers manufacturing their wares, right here in Chicago. Wolfbait specializes in unique, affordable handmade treasures that are a direct reflection of our artistic community. We will consign any Chicago artist who crafts a quality product that is inventive and affordable. Our respective collections Bruiser and Brazen Judy, which are completely constructed in our shop studio from patterns to products, are conduits of our personal styles. However, our diverse group of designers offers something for everyone, regardless of taste or budget.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
We are proud of the fact that we haven’t strayed from our original mission in the past 12 years, which is to promote and support local Chicago artists and designers.
