Today we’d like to introduce you to James Massacci.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Grew up in a grey steel mill town with plenty of drugs, violence and poverty. After high school I moved to Las Vegas and was there for about 7 years and have been mostly based out of Florida for the past 15 years with connections to all the major cities.
Please tell us about your art.
My artwork is collection of sarcasms and hypocrisies. I get my inspiration from the seedy underbellies of society. Most of my work is a combo of spray paint and acrylic. I try and make the simple pieces with a very powerful message. When people look at my art I would say they have mostly 2 reactions, either laugh or cringe. I hope my art serves as a display of the lenses that I get to look through causing people to rethink how the look at the world. At times I have received much praise and at others, several death threats. If everyone loves it, it’s not art.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I would say don’t tell people what you are going to do. It’s like telling people what you are going to name your baby, everyone has an opinion and its usually negative.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
By visiting my social media pages and purchasing the work. For artists, there is no gap larger between two phrases than this: I love your work………..how much is it?
