Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Brennan.
For years, picking up his wife, Jacquelyn from the studio, Ryan watched people coming from or going to a coffee shop. Whether they were in a group wanting to spend some quality time together or just going to/from work – the concept of marrying the two just made sense. Ryan happened to have a strong passion for coffee and was a believer in the power of Pilates, watching his wife transform the lives of her clients for years and using it himself to recover from multiple hip surgeries.
Enter 2017, where a few things happened for the Brennan’s – namely the birth of their first child, William Jack Brennan, born in June – just a few months before the doors to Pilates + Coffee opened for the first time. Just prior to his birth, Jacquelyn’s studio of ten years unexpectedly closed its doors leaving Jacquelyn and her colleagues looking for a new start. This opening caused Ryan and Jacquelyn to look at each other and take a huge leap of faith – perfect timing for new, first-time parents!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to getting to where we are has been interesting. I had my son a month early this past summer, so that was a surprise in itself. A few days after he arrived, I found out the studio I had been a part of for 9 years had sold, that news catapulted us to moving quickly on opening Pilates+Coffee. In needing a place to work once my maternity leave was up, we worked hard and prioritized getting the Pilates space ready for an October opening and once that was up and running my husband was able to put his energy into building the cafe side. We are so excited to finally have both sides up and running!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pilates + Coffee story. Tell us more about the business.
A unique neighborhood space in the heart of Roscoe Village celebrating Pilates, coffee and community. The concept was derived from both Ryan and Jacquelyn’s passions and created with a vision to provide an environment where employees and clients could thrive in the community of Roscoe Village, where they’ve called home for over a decade.
We offer private, semi-private and small group classes at P+C, focusing on individuals needs, educating our clients while offering an intelligent and challenging workout! Personally, I specialize in prenatal and postpartum corrective exercise, it is a huge passion of mine that has grown tremendously after the birth of our son.
We are most proud of the community that P+C has grown in a short time and we can’t wait for the future.
The uniqueness of our space (no other Pilates and coffee combination exists) and the ability for clients to cultivate relationships outside of their sessions or classes in our community space in the cafe area.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We foresee more spaces like ours opening in the future. People are craving more in-person interactions, being able to sit down with your teacher or peers after class and have connections is so important in today’s society where we are constantly attached to technology.
